Meet Jim Zimon

My thriving design, decorating and project management business has grown quickly since its inception in 1978. Project designs range from small bathrooms to designed interiors like the famous mansion, Chiefswood Museum, home of the Canadian poet Pauline E. Johnson, located in Ohsweken, Ontario. My designs are not limited to interiors or homes as I too involve myself in commercial office projects. I make it a priority to supply Canadian made products for the sake of the Canadian economy. A highly popular aspect of my business is offering designs and products to the younger homeowner's and do-it-yourselfers.

Through my experience, I have realized that current trends are not always the best for a practical design. To see examples of what I am talking about, please take a look at my portfolio. Seeing past style changes first hand gives me the experience of what works and what does not. My designs are always catered to your lifestyle. By paying attention to detail I can create an atmosphere that is unique, fresh and long lasting. Several customers have described my work as a rewarding success that exceeded their expectation. I have also been described as an exceptional planner, discoverer and craftsmen.

For me, being a designer is not about picking out a few paint colours and throwing a few chairs in a room with a blanket over its arm, it is much more. My goal is to handle all aspects of the project. I can render computer-drawn designs, hire the trades, create breath taking-custom designed furniture, work with your budget, and can take care of any issues that come up along the way. All partners in the trades are specifically chosen for client expectations. Working well with others comes easy, especially when those involved in the project conform to my designs and plans. My experience as a past blue collar worker in the trades for years, has given me the opportunity to take it to my design desk allowing me to make decisions with companies and suppliers with whom I have developed a great rapport. Choosing project management lessens the stress of making decisions and dealing with items outside of your comfort zone.

Continuing education and resourcing through many avenues has allowed me to develop into the Designer I have become today. At the desk, I ensure that I am up-to-date with the latest design programs and the training that goes along with them. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge to the aspiring, younger generation by mentoring Co-op students from municipal high schools and provincial colleges.

Away from the desk, I have volunteered my time to the following:

  • 2002 - The Lung Association: I was a key player giving professional design advice for their first launch of the Garden Festival in Brantford.
  • 2003 - Canadian Diabetic Association: the first launch of the Doorway to Design. In a 14 day window, I redesigned their showcase. From that point on, my colleagues and other volunteers built and decorated a six room, modified house at my facility.
  • Grand Erie School Board - Attended high schools and career day events, lending professional advice for the development of students.
